La La Land
When I left the house on friday morning, it was snowing. Not heavily, but enough to make me look at the grey skies, consider the chill, and wish - desperately - that I was somewhere warm.
I got to work, and it was still cold. I pondered the weeks' holiday that I have to take between now and the end of march, and I thought about how I'd semi-promised a friend I would take some time off, so we could jump onto our motorbikes and do a little tour of the UK. And I looked at the grey skies and snow.
And then I discovered the Virgin Atlantic super-mega-saver sale. And I discovered that Paul is very pliable when he's hungover.
And as such, Paul and I are leaving for Los Angeles, Palm Springs and San Diego in 11 days time.
Yay for spontenaiety. And credit cards.
Now- if there's anyone out there who knows LA/PS/SD intimately, and can advise on where to stay/what to do, it would be muchly appreciated. Drop me a mail to david at scally dot net.

New new iPod?
Nik has stumbled across a website showing what appears to be photos of a new iPod model. Featuring a much larger screen and bluetooth, it also seems to be Wifi ready, according to the "Airport enabled" emblem. The scroll wheel has been replaced with a virtual scroll wheel, displayed on screen.
If this is true, I want one. (Anyone want to buy a gen 5 Video iPod? ;) Checking the popular rumour sites however suggests that this is not a genuine prototype, unfortunately.

Getty Images, possibly the best known of the stock-photography houses, has launched an initiative designed to challenge peoples beliefs while raising money for charity. From their website:
Change Me is an open conversation that brings people together to share ideas through powerful imagery.
Simply find an image that inspires you and use it to express an idea that has the ability to touch or affect the person viewing it.
If selected, your image/idea may appear as part of a travelling global exhibition, and be published in a book.
For each submission, we will donate $10 to Friends of the Global Fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Microsoft innovations
.... or not.
Introducing Microsoft Max, Microsofts new photo organisation product. For a clue to their inspiration, see iPhoto, Picasa and Flickr.
Introducting the new UI for Microsoft Office, "Aero" - a rather metallic looking interface (Mac OS-X, anyone?) with lots of tabs which switch out a "ribbon" of controls underneath, instead of a menu-bar.

Crop circles - er - profanities...?
If you have Google Earth, you might be interested to see some of the things that have been spotted from space. A work colleague showed me his house recently, then panned over and up a bit, where you could quite clearly see a Lancaster Bomber flying overhead - the last remaining of it's kind in the UK.
Then there's this... I don't know what kind of message the aliens here were trying to get across.
