W*ank week
"Channel 4 is to bring mass public masturbation to the small screen.The broadcaster - once led by Michael Grade, dubbed "pornographer in chief" by the Daily Mail - has commissioned a documentary about the UK's first "masturbate-a-thon" as part of a series of programmes dubbed "Wank week".
In what must surely be one of the summer's more bizarre events, hundreds of people are expected to gather in a hall in central London on August 5 to pleasure themselves in aid of charity."

Top tips for 19 year olds.
- Don't carry around a chip on your shoulder about being 19. Especially one that's impossible for anyone else to miss, far less ignore.
- Don't misinterpret what people are saying.
- Take a bit of gentle teasing in good nature - it's often a friendly gesture amongst clever grown ups. Try to establish the lay of the land from the conversation that's already in flow when you arrive there, and judge the situation accurately.
- Re: the above: Learn to give as good as you get - but in the same vein. Don't be a nasty child when I'm sure you're capable of being an entertaining and adult conversationalist.
- Learn the meaning of "patronizing" before accusing someone of it.
- That's a really nasty colour your face turns when you get upset, you know.
- Consider for just a moment whether there could be more than one meaning to a conversation.
- Consider when you plonk yourself down next to someone whether your over-keen seeming attention may come over as something it's not. (Or it could well have been, in fact. I don't know). And that said person's seeming dismissal of you may just have been because you were making them feel a little uncomfortable with your attention.
- When someone then tries to assure you that you have gotten the wrong end of the stick, listen to them.
- Don't shout at them like an immature twit. And call them things like the c-word. That's just not nice! What would your mother say if she heard you? tut
- If you behave like a little child then you will be treated like a little child.
- Don't deliver an ultimatum and then demand a response from someone after misbehaving. You will more often than not dislike what you hear.
- Really, never never never throw a pint of beer in someone's face. What a waste of perfectly good beer! It makes you look rather silly and - well - childish.
- You can't use being 19 as the excuse for your behaviour if on the other hand you are complaining that you're treated like a 19-year-old by just about everyone present.
- When someone later tries to see if you are ok, don't continue behaving like a petulant child. It's so tiresome.
- The next time there is a party for grown-ups that runs past your bedtime, go home to bed instead.
- Respect your elders.
- Possibly the most sage and useful tip here is - enjoy and relish being 19, don't fight it. Don't draw the attention of others to your own battles. Don't fall back on the unpleasant characteristics so oft popularised and displayed by young people these days, even if you've been taught no better by your peers. Most importantly - you're only young once - make the most of it!
Now I've said this before, and I'll say it again.... "Run along, little boy".

Lightroom and Flock
It is nice being mates with someone who knows so much about Macintoshes (as he should, being the editor of MacUser).
Nik stayed over on friday night so we could go to a party (more on that later, with top tips for 19 year olds). He introduced me to two new pieces of software which are seemingly great.
Adobe Labs are working on Lightroom - their professional photo management solution. It's currently at beta 3 for Mac OS X, and you can download it for free from their site. You can read a somewhat wordy independent review here, which also compares Lightroom to Apple's homegrown solution - Aperture.

The next application Nik flaunted was Flock - a new OS X only web browser.
This baby's got more functionality than you could ever need - but it's all wrapped up in a very lightweight, easy to use package. It's overflowing with Web2.0 goodness, including built-in zero-configuration tools for managing Flickr, photobucket, blogging, del.ico.us, rss feeds and more. It has a contextual pop-up search helper. It's based on the Mozilla gecko browser engine, and seems to include support for Firefox plugins. The list goes on!
I highly recommend both of these apps! (You will of course need a Mac to run them!)
Edit:Flock is available on Windows, not just for Macs... and Lightroom is coming soon for Windows too!
